My All-TIme Worst Films

Just noticed that Cinefamily is running MAC AND ME on 5/15 and it reminded me how much that film sucks. It's easily one of the worst I've ever seen. Made me think I should do a small list. I mean, there are bad films that still offer a great deal of enjoyment(DEADLY PREY, TROLL 2, NIGHTBEAST, THE STABILIZER, ROCK 'N' ROLL NIGHTMARE, SURF II, VOYAGE OF THE ROCK ALIENS, THE PIT, PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, SHARK ATTACK 3: MEGALODON, SAMURAI COP, COOL AS ICE, THE ROOM, BIRDEMIC) and then there are those that are hard to even enjoy at all. My list consists mostly films I can barely even make it all the way through. With a crowd, some of these might be fun, but overall, just terrible.
I think what was was more exciting for me in making this list was coming across many bad films I've not yet seen. Got many great suggestions from folks on Twitter(thank you!). Here's the list so far of films I wanna check out: DIE HARD DRACULA, KNIGHT RIDER 2010, BODY ROCK, MONSTER IN THE CLOSET(on Netflix Instant btw), RAW JUSTICE & RAW NERVE(both from DEADLY PREY director David A. Prior), THE BOY WHO LOVED TROLLS, THE BLACK GESTAPO, THE ITEM, FULL IMPACT, MESA OF THE LOST WOMEN, AX 'EM, DA HIP HOP WITCH, ZOMBIEZ, ANUS MAGILLICUTTY, HOLLYWOOD HIGH PART II, THE GUY FROM HARLEM, SHE WOLVES OF THE WASTELAND, BOLERO, QUEEN KONG, THE GIANT CLAW, BOARDINGHOUSE, SEARCH FOR THE BEAST, TO CATCH A YETI, CONTAMINATION .7, THUNDERPANTS, and of course SUPERBABIES-BABY GENIUSES 2... I still need to see GOOBY as well.

1. FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY(2003; Robert Iscove)
2. BABY GENIUSES(1999; Bob Clark)

3. SPICE WORLD(1997; Bob Spiers)

4. POCKET NINJAS(1997; Dave Eddy)

5. KAZAAM(1996; Paul Michael Glaser)

NUKIE(1988; Sias Odendal)
7. SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE(1987; Sidney J. Furie)

8. MAC AND ME(1988; Stewart Raffill)

10. TURBULENCE 3: HEAVY METAL(2001; Jorge Montessi)
11. COLOR OF NIGHT(1994; Richard Rush)
13. GLITTER(2001; Vondie Curtis-Hall)
14. DEATHSTALKER III(1988; Alfonso Corona)
15. GHOST DAD(1990; Sidney Poitier)
16. SUPER MARIO BROS(1993; Annabel Jankel, Rocky Morton)
17. TERRORVISION(1986; Ted Nicolaou)
18. BATMAN AND ROBIN(1997; Joel Schumacher)
19. JAWS THE REVENGE(1987; Joseph Sargent)

20. SABRETOOTH(2002; James D.R. Hickox)

Yeah, those are all pretty horrible. I'd also throw in LEONARD PART 6. Awful. *shudder*

SUPERMAN IV goes on my list somewhere. Man, is that one a stinker and the extra scenes on the DVD are no help. Such a sad swan song for the Christopher Reeve Superman years.

Rupert Pupkin said...

As dumb as it sounds, I don't hate LEONARD PART 6. It's awful no question, but it has some charm for me.
Can't believe I forgot SUPERMAN IV! That has to be on the list. Need to adjust it! Damn!

That was fast! I was going to suggest POCKET NINJAS for sure!

Breaks my heart to see TERRORVISION on here, though. Love it.

In all fairness, I've not seen TERRORVISION for many years(hated it so much when I first saw it). It may be up for re-examination perhaps.

Hot list! I really didn't think "From Justin to Kelly" was THAT bad. Really! It was bad, yeah, but not "Transformers 2" or "Troll 2" bad. Have you seen "best Worst Movie" btw? It's opening at NuArt in a few weeks! Looks awesome.

Very very excited to see BEST WORST MOVIE. Have heard great things and watched the trailer countless times since late last year.

SPICE WORLD and FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY are bad, bad...but COOL AS ICE is at least as bad as those two. To be fair, COOL AS ICE might have enough chuckles here and there to 'elevate' it off the list. Maybe. :)

Rupert Pupkin said...

Yeah COOL AS ICE make me laugh so hard, too much enjoyment to have it on the list.

FAR AND AWAY is also pretty atrocious if only for Tom Cruise's "Irish" accent and bare chested fight scene. Blah!

Ooh, so much to comment on! Deathstalker 3 WAS awful, but Deathstalker II (I think they switched from roman to arabic numerals) was hilarious and well worth the watch. Monster in the Closet is a wonderful waste of brain cells. Mesa of Lost Women is almost Manos, Hands of Fate good in its lameness.

I reserve "worst" for movies that are popular and commonly praised, but destroy society piecemeal. "Pretty Woman," for example - the movie says, in effect, become a hooker and a rich handsome man will solve all your problems (as all addicted, beaten, disease-ridden whores will attest).

Bridget Jones 2 Edge of Reason is one of mine. Deep Impact another. There was a movie with the Rock where he coached gang kids at football in a prison that I've mostly repressed. Awful. What no Star Wars Prequels on this list? Attack of the Clones, anyone?

Rupert Pupkin said...

J.D.-ooh FAR AND AWAY, yikes! I totally can't even get through that one!

STEVE-I really need to see MESA OF LOST WOMEN. Especially if it reaches MANOS levels of hilarity. Heard it talked about on the B-Movie Cast recently and was reminded I really need to see it. I can't disagree with your analysis of PRETTY WOMAN. Pretty spot on.

JENNY-Oh wow, the thought of even attempting a watch of BRIDGET JONES 2 makes me cringe in a big way! I think you're talking about the Rock's film THE GAME PLAN, which I'd rather eat tires than watch. Looks horrifying! The Prequels. Hmm not sure why those were left off. Trying to erase their very existence from my brain. I take medication daily...

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.

Spiceworld does NOT belong on this list! It's got satire! And Richard E. Grant!

You sir, have incurred my wrath.

Rupert Pupkin said...

EMILY- You and Christine's comments have been heard and I'll shall give the SPICE GIRLS MOVIE one more shot. My apologies ladies.

Christine: High five! Girrrrrrrl power!

I just saw "Birdemic: Shock and Terror." See it. Now! There's a new Ed Wood Jr. in town! I specialize in terrible films and THIS has to be seen to be believed.

Rupert Pupkin said...

STEVE, Oh I've seen it, and you're right it is epic in its badness! Epic!

Jennythenipper said...

yeah, Game Plan. I saw it at the drive-in, which is where I also saw Deep impact. Somehow really awful movies are more bearable at the drive-in but these two stand out as being truly painful. Daily medication to eradicate the memory of the prequels is a good idea.

re: MESA OF LOST WOMEN. I met the star, Tandra Quinn, at Border's bookstore in North Dallas in October 2002. Didn't know it was her at first.

She was just there with her (now late, I believe) husband, looking through the books in the film section, and we got to talking about films. She let it slip that she was looking for a film she'd been in, and she mentioned MESA when I asked. She was amazed that I'd heard of it! Then she said she "got to do a dance" in the film, and I put 2 and 2 together---"you're Tandra Quinn!". Not her real name, but it was her, at about age 70. She lives in Denton, just 25 miles north of here. Really nice lady and enjoyed chatting with her about her films--only 4, but she also worked with Mara Corday (PROBLEM GIRLS) and apparently they borrowed each other's clothes.

Worst film I saw in 2009 was 'Life aquatic', didn't laugh once.

I recently left a comment on a similar "worst movie thread", you might be interested in:

Ugh! Those are pretty awful! Super Mario Bros. was hilariously bad. The opening narration from Mario was ridiculous!
