My Favorite Sword and Sorcery Movies

Ok, so here's another short entry and a quick list. This one sort of ties into last weeks Dragon Movies list, but it is inspired by my son wanting to go and see CLASH OF THE TITANS tomorrow. I have very little hope for this film, but I imagine my son will have a good time so I guess that's good enough. Without further ado, the list:

1. JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS(1963; Don Chaffey)
CLASH OF THE TITANS(1981; Desmond Davis)
BEASTMASTER(1982; Don Coscarelli)
HAWK THE SLAYER(1980; Terry Marcel)
CONAN THE BARBARIAN(1982; John Milius)
RED SONJA(1985; Richard Fleischer)
CONQUEST(1983; Lucio Fulci)
CONAN THE DESTROYER(1984; Richard Fleischer)
9. DEATHSTALKER II(1987; Jim Wynorski)
10. SORCERESS(1982; Jack Hill)

*as always, hit me with suggestions of favorites I've missed! Oh and CIRCLE OF IRON(1978) would have no doubt made my list, but I haven't seen it yet. There are many I've not seen...

The poster art alone from the unseen list is proof enough of their awesomness!
PS- Jason and the Argonauts is definitely one of the best movies of all time!

What about Excalibur? I rewatched it recently and it's not as good as I remembered it.

My fave of the genre, hands down, is LEGEND. Despite Tom Cruise's presence you've got a smokin' Mia Sara as the princess and Tim Curry decked out in Rob Bottin's astounding make-up as the pure incarnation of evil. Not to mention its a Ridley Scott mega-production with an incredible attention to detail... kinda like what he did for science fiction with BLADE RUNNER he did for for sword and sorcery films with LEGEND... and with the same results at the box office.

Graygrrrl-Love JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS. Recently took my son to see it at our local Cinematheque!

Jennythenipper- Need to see EXCALIBUR again. Not sure why I left it off. Have an HDDVD I need to look at.

J.D. Wow, Not sure why I left off LEGEND man. I think I might have lumped it in w/KRULL as more sci-fi/fantasy than sword and sorcery, but in thinking about it now that doesn't seem accurate. I really do need to re-see it and have been kind of waiting for a nice Blu-Ray release to do so...
