My Cinematic Alphabet

My friend Sherrie over at Citizenrobot came up with this list idea and I think it's a fun one. Along with our friend Sean over at Cinema-Scope we've all decided to put together our Cinematic Alphabets. Favorite films for each letter. Forget about Dr. Seuss, this is how I plan to teach my little girl her ABCs. We invite other bloggers to join us in putting out their own alphabets and are very curious what others' lists will look like!

A is for THE APARTMENT.

B is for BREAKING AWAY.

C is for THE CONVERSATION.

D is for DUCK SOUP.

E is for ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ.

F is for FORBIDDEN PLANET.

G is for GOING IN STYLE.

H is for HALLOWEEN.

I is for IT'S A GIFT.

J is for JAWS.

K is for THE KING OF COMEDY.

L is for THE LONG GOODBYE.

M is for THE MALTESE FALCON.

N is for NIGHT MOVES.

O is for OUT OF THE PAST.

P is for PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE.

Q is for QUATERMASS AND THE PIT.

R is for RIO BRAVO.

S is for STRAIGHT TIME.

T is for THE THING.

U is for USED CARS.

V is for VALLEY GIRL.

W is for WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS.

X is for XANADU.

Y is for THE YAKUZA.

Z is for ZODIAC.

LOVE this! since the only blog I have is sporadic as Malick, I can't really contribute. But I LOVE this.

You are the king of seductive cinematic lists, sir!

What a great idea! I can't wait to get started on my own alphabet.

An excellent list and a great idea! I may try doing this myself although I'm afraid some of our choices may overlap, especially J and V.

Giles-thanked you on twitter, but thanks again!
Graygrrrl-can you hit me with a link here when you do your list? Would love to see it!
Chuck-thanks! Credit is due to my friend over at Citizenrobot.com(check out her list there) for the idea. J is gonna be the same for a lot of people I would think. Too good a movie!
Bry-would love to hear your thoughts on the film!
Kristal-Glad you dug the idea! Please drop a link in the comments here If you do a list! Thanks for reading!

Did this with a bunch of bloggers a few years back - had a huge turnout. Here's my list and here's a listing of over 100 blogs that took part, in case you never tire of reading these lists.

Nice to see a new crop of blogs taking part! It's a fun exercise.

Loved the idea so much I had to do it myself:

Oh... we shared only Quatermass and the Pit (and we both cheated a little, as it was released as Five Million Years to Earth in the US).

Jeremy- Thanks sir! I loved your list from a few years back!

Fletch-so neat to see how many blogs got on board!

CDM-Very cool you did a list man, I really dug it!

Chuck-Liked your list too!

CS-let me know if you do one! I am addicted to looking at them now!

Steve-As always, a few titles I've never head of or seen on your list!

Sweet idea. I'll post my own as soon as I get the chance!

Nice list. Like Fletch, I did this a couple of years ago too and actually posted three separate lists (one with only documentaries). I'm linking it here because Fletch (sniff) didn't link back to me in his post. Even after I commented...

Did I run over your dog or something dude? B-)

Fletch said...

I just didn't like you back then, Bob. ;)

I think I was a bit overwhelmed at the time. Will you ever forgive me?

Bob Turnbull said...

Aw shucks, I could never stay mad at you Fletch! B-)

Yeah, you had a TON of participation in that little meme. Looking back, that must have been a helluva lot of work.

The original blogathon was before my time, so I'm glad I'm getting the chance to participate now. Here's my 26: http://reviewsbytom.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-cinematic-alphabet.html

Bob-Good stuff! I am gonna post a 2nd alphabet(couldn't resist) tomorrow and we have an overlap. Well done!

Great blog, great list!

And I gotta say, by sheer coincidence, I'm doing a "Great Alphabet of Films" list for the A-Z Blogger Challenge. Great minds think alike! I guess through some variation of mystical transcendence, your idea formed in my head.

I'm guessing Zelig and (for the more perverse) Zardoz will get a lot of exposure on these lists.

Great picks! I still need to see several of these
