Netflix Instant "Gems" Vol. 15

A lot more interesting and fun material this week. More cult items. Including on of my favorite up and coming cult films, MYSTERY TEAM. It's not a film that everyone will love, but I feel it's destined for a much bigger following than it even already has. Really funny if it hits you right. It features the wonderful Donald Glover(who many may now know from COMMUNITY) and his Derrick Comedy cohorts. I love it. There are plenty more cult movies to be viewed from THIS IS SPINAL TAP to the entire BILLY JACK series. You know what else I love? John Carpenter films. Several of my favorites(THE THING, ESCAPE FROM NY...) are up there now and that always pleases me. I also saw that THE LEAGUE Season 1 just popped up and that's a show that I think is pretty darned hilarious. Also, check out MURDER BY DECREE, a Sherlock Holmes flick from the late great Bob Clark. I'm pretty sure Tarantino is a fan of that one.

Ooh Death Race 2000 and Nights of Cabiria--I haven't seen either of them in years. That would be a weird double feature eh?

Some might say an odd double, I'd say excellent!

check out The Lather Effect which is kind of like a Gen X Big Chill (even though I hate that idea) which is also on instant watch.

Wow - very interesting list. We've got a bunch of Carpenter up here but not Mouth of Madness. Mystery Team really work for both Kat and me as well. I know that Carnal Knowledge has its fans, but I found it a chore to sit through. We also don't have the Melville and Goddard flicks up here. Very sad. Are they good prints?

Another great list of gems! Mystery Team was hilarious! How are Dagon and Cabin Fever 2?

Thanks as always for these post, I just caught Mystery Team last night, while I didn't love it to the extent of some it has some hilarious moments and I respect they kept to the premise the entire film. I think Don Glover is going to be a huge star, he's so naturally charming.

Glad you informed me Arizona Dream is back on Instant, it was on a very years ago but disappeared before I had the chance to watch it. I hope this is a harbinger of more Warner Archive titles coming to instant, because as much as I love the Archive collection, there's some titles I'd like to sample before buying unseen.

Keep up the good work

Scott-glad you and Kat were on board with MYSTERY TEAM. It really has long term cult hit written all over it, esp as Donald Glover gains popularity. I hear what you are saying re: CARNAL KNOWLEDGE. It is tough for sure. I revisited most every other Nichols film more. Except VIRGINIA WOOLF, thats hard too(but better). Havent checked out thos Goddard prints, will let you know. Hope they put up WEEKEND at some point. That's a favorite of mine.

TY-Both are worth your time. I think I prefer DAGON, but CF2 has some good moments. I love Ti West. Am so excited about THE INKEEPERS!

COLONEL- I agree about Glover. A true comedic prodigy for me. Yeah I was excited AD showed up too. I've seen several WB archives films pop up since I started doing these lists. Great trend!
