Netflix Instant "Gems" Vol. 19

COLDBLOODED is a movie that a friend of mine and I discovered when we were working at a video store soon after its release on VHS. A very entertaining dark comedy with great performances from Jason Priestly and Peter Riegert(big fan of his) at the center of it, this film sadly slipped under a lot of people's radars and has eluded a DVD release to this day. Also check out a few of my other 90s indie favorites, SAFE MEN & TREES LOUNGE. PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK is one in a string of well made films by Jerry Schatzberg(who also did the under-rated SCARECROW) and was I believe the film that Coppola saw prior to casting Pacino in THE GODFATHER. PANIC also stars the wonderful (but woefully under-used) Kitty Winn(who won the Golden Palm at Canne in 1971 for her performance here). SID & NANCY, which also just showed up, might make a nice depressing double with PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK. On the other end of the spectrum is MOMENT BY MOMENT the odd and creaky "romance" starring John Travolta and Lily Tomlin. Nice write-up on that film over at Mr. Peel's Sardine Liqueur. Speaky of odd and creaky, check out THE HINDENBURG. I love almost all the 70s disaster films, this one included. Oh and by the way, GOR, ARENA and INTERZONE would make a great triple feature if one was so inclined. And don't you forget to keep your Power Gloves off the 80s classic movie/Nintendo commercial THE WIZARD!

Yeah, love NIGHTHAWKS also. Wow, can't believe that METALSTORM has surfaced seeing as how you can't get it on DVD. Amazing. I have fond memories of seeing this in 3D as a kid and loving every cheesy minute of this ROAD WARRIOR ripoff.

Thanks for these!

Ty-Yeah the neat thing about NIGHTHAWKS is that I guess the music original music(songs) is intact in the streaming(HD!) version on Netflix. The DVD has been rescored with other music. I guess streaming is considered broadcast perhaps(?) or the studio is willing to pay the music clearances on a per download basis. Psyched to watch again myself. Hope you enjoy COLDBLOODED!
J.D.-I wish I'd seen METALSTORM in 3D!! Never got the chance. Love the new NIGHTMARES avatar btw!
