Any time of the year is a good time for a nice cinematic love story. I can't get enough of them myself. It is of course this particular time of year when many folks find themselves looking for that special film to watch with their special someone. Last year I did a guest post containing some of my underrated romantic favorites over at JDB Records. Even though I am not an especially big fan of this holiday, I thought I would add on to last year's list with several more favorites that I feel are still somewhat underseen and or underappreciated. Enjoy! (I've included ways to see these films where possible)
ALOHA BOBBY AND ROSE(1975; Floyd Mutrux) (DVD, Netflix)
AT LONG LAST LOVE(1975; Peter Bogdanovich) (Netflix Instant)
So... at least two people have seen "Quackser Fortune!" I hope we convince others to check it out. I tend to blur the Tracy/Hepburn movies together; is "Woman of the Year" the one that has the hilarious scene of Kate not being able to make coffee?
I recently(ish) saw They Live By Night at a local cinema and it's honestly one of my favourite love stories, now. The contrast between their sweetness together and the overall mood of the film is more than a little heartbreaking but then there are just some of those incredibly cute scenes, too. I loved that film a whole lot. -Andi
Andi-Yes you are totally right. That contrast you mention really makes the film and their romance stand out. The film should really be even more of a recognized classic than it is.
As usual, many favorites on your lists and many others still to see, Rupe! Definitely nice to see VISION QUEST finally available in an easily obtainable widescreen edition.

Steve- Yeah QUACKSER FORTUNE is truly a forgotten film. Needs more viewers. And yes that's WOMAN OF THE YEAR you're thinking of indeed.

Yeah the ending gets me every time...
